Hattie and her friendly team of staff welcome you to the Hope & Anchor, a delightful former 17th century coaching inn. Like many of the inns and pubs in the area it was constructed from former ship’s timber, and it even boasts its own ghost – Ted! It is a traditional pub with a warm atmosphere and a large garden incorporating a heated smoking shelter, barbecue area and an Aunt Sally pitch.
Adjoining the pub there are also three lovely en-suite letting rooms, furnished in a contemporary style, with flat screen TV, wifi and tea/coffee making facilities, available at very reasonable room only rates. Situated just a two minute walk from Wokingham station, the pub is ideally situated for easy access to London, direct to Waterloo or via Reading to Paddington.
Since Hattie took over as landlady in October 2009, the Hope & Anchor has established a reputation for its live music, featuring musicians from all over Berkshire and is considered by many to be the premier live music venue in Wokingham. Other featured events include occasional Burlesque evenings, a monthly Open Mic night, weekly quiz and others. To find out more about what’s happening, check out the Live Music & What’s On pages.
The pub is recognised for its selection of well-kept ales and was runner-up in the CAMRA South East Pub of the Year 2012. It also carries the Cask Marque award and is featured in the Good Beer Guide 2013, for the second year running. As a Brakspear pub, the ale offering includes monthly specials from other affiliated breweries such as Marstons, Wychwood, Ringwood and Jennings. Check the Beer page to see what selection is currently on offer.
