Welcome to the Hope and Anchor

Hattie and her friendly team welcome you to the Hope & Anchor, a delightful former 17th century coaching inn. Like many of the inns and pubs in the area it was constructed from former ship’s timber, and it even boasts its own ghost – Ted! This traditional pub is known for its warm atmosphere and great staff, and the spacious newly revamped beer garden with a heated smoking shelter and a barbecue is a real suntrap through the afternoons.

For those wishing to stay a little longer, the pub also boasts three lovely en-suite letting rooms, furnished in a contemporary style, and all with flat screen TV, wifi and tea/coffee making facilities, available at very reasonable room only rates. With a great location just two minute’s walk from Wokingham station, the pub is ideally situated for easy access to London, either direct to Waterloo or via Reading to Paddington, and is just a few minutes walk from the centre of town.

Since Hattie took over as landlady in October 2009, the Hope & Anchor has established a great reputation for its live music, featuring musicians from all over the South, and is considered by many to be the premier live music venue in Wokingham. Other featured events include occasional Open Mic nights, a weekly thursday night pub quiz, charity events and much more. To find out more about what’s happening, check out the Live Music & What’s On pages.

The Hope & Anchor is recognised for its selection of well-kept ales, and was runner-up in the CAMRA South East Pub of the Year 2012. It also carries the Cask Marque award and was featured in the Good Beer Guide 2013 for the second year running. As a Brakspear pub, the ale offering includes monthly specials from other affiliated breweries such as Marstons, Wychwood, Ringwood and Jennings. Check out the Beer page to see what selection is currently on offer.
